After several years of poor showings of these beauties, it has been so rewarding to have a large number of Small Tortoiseshells Aglais urticae, visiting our small garden
Perhaps the two successive hard winters, have seen off the species of French fly, that was reeking havoc on their larvae, or in our parts at least

SnapGrin Can count on loads of these every year in our garden Adrian - they swarm on perennial wallflowers more than the Buddleia.

It sure is Adie, both these and the peacocks have undergone a resurgence in numbers this year. Plenty of them have been seen on the buddleia bushes at the end of my back garden and also in the valley area where most of the thistles and brambles grow at Prestbury Hill.

you are very lucky, we get only very few of these, but then we also had hard winters in the last 3 years.

A beauty, both the butterfly and its image. We seem to have rather a large number of them around here including in every room of the house where clearly they have decided to hibernate. Rescued a couple for the garage yesterday too.
