A River View with help from Photoshop Elements. I Have been experimenting with layers.
The work that I have tried on this shot is to add a coloured layer and used the colour burn option in Elements blending mode. Please be aware that I am new to all this!!! I got the Idea from a video Tutorial.

I'm a bit worried about the water going downhill Wink 1000th at f13 with 200iso I'm wondering why a shot like this would be fine at 250th, I'm starting to wonder if the info is correct as that seems an awful lot of light , anyway if they are correct try to work at 100 iso for slightly better quality which would have given you a 500th

Hello, Andy. This is a very pleasant scene with sparkling water and lovely cloud formations. You don't say what you did in Elements. The reddish colour is quite bright and I personally think it spoils the image, I'd rather have just seen darker golds. The tilt has already been mentioned. I appreciate that you were probably trying to get all the ducks into your shot, but you have placed your main boat very central in the frame, and I would rather have seen it further over to the right. Where the light hits the water, it is white and burnt out, devoid of detail. I wonder if your original is so white, or if this happened in editing? Although tilted, you have your horizon or water-edge quite central on the vertical, and I think I might have gone for a bit more of that glorious sky, giving two thirds of the vertical to it, even at the expense of losing a few ducks in the foreground.
Pamela.

One of those shots which looks like it has been posted by one of the 'rules can go to hell' brigade - although I realise it has not. Unfortunately it does show all the opposite effects, but the upside is that this shows just how, when 'the rules' are misapplied, it does show. Using RoT on the ship, vertically and horizontally, and the horizon, when levelled, on the vertical axis, makes an immediate effect upon the composition.
I am not sure what your experiments did as you have not told us, but I have uploaded a mod where I have tried to improve the composition. As far as rules are concerned, of course they can be broken, but more often than not they really do work and need to be learned so that eventually one will know when it is safe to break them. This is not aimed at you directly Andy, just a general observation.

Frank

Thanks to all that have taken the time to look at my photo and for all the helpful comments. I will try the same thing later and will take all the great help on-board and post another photo tomorrow.
I would like to thank you all but as I have not been in the group for a month I cannot post a message.
Thanks to you all Regards Andy.

Andy,

I'm really really sorry but I don't like this treatment at all, looks like someone has gone mad with the saturation slider, sorry.

With Dave I fear - not a treatment that works at all. There is an apparent lean to the right which needs attention, and there is a fine shot in there, but with even less exposure to reduce/remove the burnt out areas.

You will find that, in full bright sun from behind you, correct exposure at ISO 200 will be, near enough, 1/800 @ f8, so into the sun you could do with even less. I usually go to manual in these circumstances, but I have the advantage of a hand meter, a modern Sekonic, which is still very much better than any internal camera system when used correctly, but is just one more cost and needs carrying around.
