f8, ISO 200, 1/250sec
Ok a while ago I got out and did a very tiny bit of landscape shooting - mostly from the car (or just outside the car) whilst traveling around so no time to stop and wait for the light or to really scout out each area. I didn't even have a tripod to rest upon so relied upon the IS in my lens to help out.
Dispite composition being a weaker area for me this was one of the more sucessful shots from the day, even though it needs a little rotation to get that building roof straight its come out of the camera pretty well considering that I didn't wait for the light to soften a little more (I did have to duel process the RAW to get details in the sky and background areas to show up clearer). I did get some blowout on the building, but managed to tone it down somewhat to a less distracting level.
So there we are - a landscape shot of the Lake District.

Gah Sorry for not noticing this sooner Scutter/Ben
Actually whilst I edited this shot I held myself back (deliberately) from oversaturating the results and I've had a few suggest that I boost the contrast a little. I do have to say I like the edit you did in the sky areas for pulling out the stronger blues.
With regard to the background mountain areas I might or might not burn them in a little more, but I think it adds a little depth to have a contrast change between the fore and backgrounds (as I recall the lighting was like that at the time with a subtle difference between the two).
I actually think that this is the best shot in your portfolio to date, and would like to see more like it.
There's a good sense of the climate within the photo, good light, and perfectly sharp. The composition is strong, and not too cluttered. I'd possibly do a small contrast boost in the background, just to reduce some of the haze in the background. Otherwise, I like it

A great many thanks David and I'm glad that you think so, I was certainly more than surprised myself with what I'd managed to get out It's a case for me (even still now) of getting stuff like this out of the "accident" line and into more mainstream results from my shooting
Gaucho - I do agree and avoiding oversaturation was in my mind when I did the editing of this shot - I try to walk that fine line between getting the contrast and saturation enough to give it that "punch" without going overboard and ending up with a blazing mess of colour. It certainly can work as a method, but I didn't feel that it worked on this shot.
