Thank you for passing your judgement on the larger version rather than the small one :o)
Taken at a small restaurant near the beach of Naklua, Thailand
Might upload the color version tomorrow. Feel free to critique/comment.

could have him for dinner with hannibal..
Works well in black and white. Plus I like the angle of shot.
Not one of your best images Koen. I find the toning a little flat and the figure a little too central in the image.
That said it beats any candid that I've evere done, so I should'nt nit-pick really.
:o) bon appetit Cole
Cheers Dave. apreciate the honest opinion
good image, like the angle.
nicely composed - sue
I think this is fabulous (just watched OLD BOY so you get the advantage of my good mood ). First thought I was wishing he wasn't so centralized, but when looking at the large version for a while I did't mind it at all. Love the streaks of light inside and I like the distortion of lines (which gives few 'repeats of the frame' and a dynamic composition). Two thumbs up from me
Thanks Tommy (Or Mr Park ;o)
I have to agree with Tommie... the strength of this pic comes out in the large version. Great pic and love the kid's expression.
Thanks. the smaller version is only there because I don't have a choice I'm afraid
Not sure about the toning but another good one....love the expression of the boy and the german on the blackboard!
Thanks Ollie. Naklua is a part of Pattaya were many Germans and Austrians went to settle down, hence the german writing.
Enjoy the holidays
I like this Koen, and the toning works for me, would love to know what the sign says. I also like the small amount of movement in his fingers, makes him appear slightly anxious.
"Verzehrkarte bei selbstabholung von speisen und getraenken vorlegen ! Danke"
when picking up food and drinks please show "Verzehrkarte" (not sure what Verzehrkarte means) ! Thank you
Verzehrkarte ( isn't a real geram word)= Speisekarte = menu!!!
Nice shot Koen, obviously the light wasnt that good, has the boy got a burn on his cheek?
great angle, quite a soulful little expression.
Agree with some of the other comments Koen, not one of your best, but good non the less. What I think would have made this image would have been getting the little boy to stand in the doorway and exposing for the facial features. Silly question, is he blind or just playing with the stick? Looking at the pic large I can see what Pooch is talking about on the cheek and what looks like marks on his legs from falling or walking in to something. Uploaded a mod.
just a kid playing with a stick Paul. the "mark" on his cheeck is camera (the 5.1 megapixels ?) related I'm afraid (or at least I think it is). I noticed before (with some photos of Wa) that - when after processing - the slightest of tonal differences (sometimes) tend to show more :o(
the spots on the legs are purely kids-play-related
Glad of that Koen, he just looks kind of sad.
he looks a bit scared, possibly because a strange tall man is lying on his belly in front of him to take a photo.
"Verzehrkarte" seems southern german/bavarian to me and means something like "digestion map" which translates best as "menu".
The large view makes it, The toning is a bit rich, a paler one could bring out the image better.
Have no problem with the boy in the middle if only Koen would have sat perpendicular rather than at an angle.
Quote: a strange tall man is lying on his belly in front of him
he he, no way Josť. remember, the strange tall man (that part was correct lol) uses a compact... with an extremely usefull swivelscreen that allows me these low and high angles without having to get myself dirty (actually one of the main reasons why I'm reluctant to buy a SLR ;o)
Quote: if only Koen would have sat perpendicular rather than at an angle.
yep, seems I had the camera pointed slightly towards the left.
Like the title!
Nice low viewpoint that works well
Bigger's definitely better. The small version didn't do it for me at all...but viewed large all the detail in the shadows can be seen. Like the low viewpoint on this.
