Adonis blue (Lysandra bellargus)-male.
Photographed on Rew down, Ventnor, IW, 8 Aug 10.
f5.6, 1/800 sec, ISO 200 @ 150mm, hand held. This lovely little butterfly could fly perfectly well but seemed unable to fold his wings correctly upon landing, this image was taken at about 6.30 pm and he had been settled for approx 5 mins, very breezy, 30+ shots taken to get just one half decent image. Please view large.
Thank you very much to all who took time to vote and comment on my previous (Grass snake) upload.
David

Stunning details!

I've noticed Common Blue females sometimes sit rubbing their wings together - I always thought it was a way of attracting males (either by flashing blue, or distributing scent).

Beautiful capture David

Lovely capture David - a real treat just to get a flash of that stunning blue. I know what you mean about these windy conditions - a real pain.

Well done to get both sides of the butterfly. Very sharp and well-placed in the frame.

A fabulous shot of this beautiful bright blue butterfly. I'm sure I saw my first one ever today on Cranham Common in Gloucestershire, but alas I couldn't catch him on camera
