Arriving about half an hour before Dawn at the Stade in Hastings I met Clive Burrow. We were both optimistic as the Sky looked as if it was clearing but unfortunately as soon as the camera kit came out the rain arrived. After 45 minutes of being rain lashed and wind buffeted we gave up the fight against the rain drops on the filters and retired to a local cafe. Refreshed by a hot brew we decided to have another try. This shot was taken during the re-visit. The conditions hadn't improved but I think we were both determined not to waste the visit.

Nice capture Derek looks like the problem i had on sunday morning. got a couple of usable images myself. the sky in yours looks like you took this on sunday too.
You've certainly captured 'wild & windy', Derek. The movement in the flags makes it for me.
Dave
That sky holds a lot of drama as does the choppy sea. There's plenty of FG interest in the boat but the overall comp is nice and uncluttered. The limited palette works very well, enhancing the deceptive simplicity and increasing the impact of the image. Like Dave I like the movement of the flags, to me they look like ethereal flaming brands! ![]()
Thanks everyone. As a few have stated the flags give the image a real boost.

Yes we were then on Sunday. Clive came better prepared for the weather than me as he had a camera cover and plenty of lens cloths. Lesson learnt, I have now ordered a few more cloths and a couple of camera covers.
The sea looks angry and the flags are ripping themselves apart in the wind, a great save from a near disastrous day. Ell done to you Derek.

Worth the effort ! i love the way the flags seem to be almost transparent. Niec colours...peter
Nicely done Derek, definetly worth getting wet for. That cuppa was a real live saver ![]()
Clive
Determination is clearly what was needed. Excellent, brooding image

Well this certainly reflects the conditions you have described. The movement in the flags and the threatening sky make this stand out as an image .

The temptation was to 'brighten' this up in PS but that would not been a true reflection of the conditions.
