When in S America these were planted along roadsides and had flowerheads at least as large as footballs but mine here are less than half that size. Planted in a hurry without removing the rubble beneath when the new house was built seems by some miracle to have been exactly what they like and they are now multiplying into an amazing display. They range from deep, dark blue through to white. As for my title? I would very much like to change the bg which was black card held rather too close to the flower and the texture shows. Can anyone help with this? I'd greatly appreciate it. V2 is just a close-up minus any other bg.
Many thanks to those who took time to view the previous posting "Smile" and for the kind comment re Hope. Missing her so much but am planning to plant a small thicket of mixed trees and shrubs around where she's buried. Planning this is good for me!

must admit I pprefer the bloom in its natural environment
Lovely idea for the rememberance of Hope!
I tried an Agapanthus a little while ago, one of the most difficult of flowers to capture. You have a lovely colour range even within that one flower. Very well captured
. As for the background, I rarely use a card as I end up with strange shadows but move a little around the flower and a little away from it to get a better dof, making the most of the light and using natural dark shadows. Nathan has done a good job with the black point. Highlights and shadows in Photoshop are a great help too![]()

Lovely flower, lovely images. I spent aaaaaaaaages doing a mod of V1 then decided I like V2 better. (How sad is that)?
For your background, Ann, I used the Magic Wand on "Perceptual" (I use PaintshopPro) to select the background, adding the little bits inbetween the flowers, then Flood Filled with black. It needs a bit of tidying up around the edges, but is a quick and easy way to do it. I haven't put up a modification because it would take some time to correct all the edges. I just wanted to give it a go really.
V2 is my favourite, I think you have a better angle on the flower, with more of the individual flowers on the same focal plane, and therefore you have more of them in focus than in V1, and also some little stamens showing.
Both good Ann but i go for V2 with it's natural BG,
Geoff.
I prefer V1 as modified by Lynne. As you know I do like a good black background. I sometimes use my Roxio program, to flood fill with black on some of my images when I haven't had the black card available. I bought the program when I first bought the computer some eight years ago.

v2 for me, the rich oof heads add so much to the blue glory.
and many thanks for your kind words.. made me feel better to face the day. I have invited my wonderful neighbour to go to Bordeaux for a day next week, ten years I have lived here and never been to the town 120 kms away but to see the bureaucrats. So we decided to find out more, I'll take a day off.
Two super versions Ann, v1 is so beautifuly presented and v2 so natural
Lovely shots. I prefer V1 on the dark background.
