Hi All, I haven't posted since the 6th November due to other commitments and a spell away from home on family business so have been neglecting you all of late (sorry).

The portrait class has started up again and we had a new model to work with so I thought I would introduce you to 16 year old ALANNAH, I think you will agree, she is a beautiful young lady and an absolute joy to photograph.

Many thanks for your comments on my Sparrow which were very much appreciated and thanks for looking in on me once again. LARGE VIEW IS A MUST!

Its a very well composed shot Fran, eye perfectly on a third.

Im not a fan of the tight black frame, - I would choose a less restrictive fraem as in the mods.

I personally find where shes looking is not ideal, - would be better if she was looking a Franfoto!

The skin tone on my monitor is overly red, - so Im not sure if you calibrated white balance for the shoot? I do find that Canon tends to favour red in general, - no matter which model Ive used.

I would also think about removing multiple catchlights, as imo one looks better, - but thats personal preference.

Loaded 3 mods, all with her eyes lightened a little:.

1 is the frame, catchlights, less red (may have overdone the less red).

2 This is a diffuse glow applied that I think accentuates her hair nicely.

3. B&W with yellow filter, - makes a really nice monotone shot. I actually think the mono is terrific.

Regards

Willie

Wow, beautifully done. Not sure if you used a reflector to camera left or in front and below but if so, it could be responsible for the redness in the skin tones by reflection from her red top. I do not find the red skin tones displeasing or distracting, just trying to figure out where they came from. Some texts I have read indicate that there are some lenses which tend to amplify red and others yellow. The catch lights in the eyes, especially the ones in the whites I did notice right away though, mainly because of the excellent coaching I have had here on ePz. I personally like the catch lights left in as they help me see the lighting set up, but of course, this is not considered asthetic. This portrait has lovely clarity and great composition and colour.

Hi George, I think you may have hit the nail on the head regarding the slight redness in the skin tones. A Lastolight tri reflector was placed in front of her which reflected light on both sides and the front. Red looked gorgeous on this model but I did notice on all of the shots that they tended to have a reddish cast which must have been created by the combination of reflectors and the dress. I colour corrected in Photoshop but obviously not quite enough. Another problem I find is working on a laptop....when it comes to adjusting colours, contrast and brightness it is difficult to know exactly where to place the screen and I appreciate that it can make a difference to what others see on their calibrated screens when viewing my work. I have conceded that I have to invest in a CRT monitor some time soon to address this problem.

Nice portrait Fran.
I think most of the comments have been covered already.
However, I had a quick look at this before I left work on a 21" monitor screen and the complexion on her forehead was blotchy red.
At home, looking at the image on my Dell XPS M1530 laptop, although it has a sharp clear screen, does not reveal the problems.

Hi Fran - read a few comments on the way down.
Lovely model and some great detail. A good effort - with this image a few tweaks can improve it . I would ease back equally on warmth and saturation for a more natural look and add a little more light around the eyes.
Not to keen on the colour of the hair in the mods though.
As has been said - probably need to look at the set up next time.
Brian.
