From our recent visit to Majorca in early May. Crowded beach! Shot through hotel side window on sixth floor - got away with the glass I think. Exposed for sand. 250mm so nearer 400mm with lens hood pressed against glass for stability. ISO400, aperture priority, f8. About 1/800 sec.

Hi Paul, i like this one for its sheer simplicity, its exposed well, and i also like the composition...the vast emptiness in the image brings out the man and the tower well, though not sure if they dont compete for attention at a certain level....

Cheers

Agree with devlin's comment. With the shot as is, I would be tempted to clone out the man.

Well, I've cloned out the man. (Please see mod.)

Does it work?

Personally I'm not sure. If he hadn't been there, then yes. As it is, the jury's out I'm afraid.

Bren.

i'd keep the figure in, for me he adds a sense of scale and pathos.

For me, it needs the man. Of course, this is what it's all about - opinion on the subject. I think the man gives scale and actually emphasises the emptiness by being the only one there. He was, actually, the only person on a very large beach. That's Majorca in early March - great, no one there!
