This is from Thursday night with Dave, we had a session shootig the swans at Fairburn before heading to those trees we painted.
This chap was proudly wandering around with his wings like this for a while, had to wait ages for him to have no other swans interfereing with the shot - there's lots there getting in the way.
Used the speedlite on -1 EV to fill illuminate the bird as this was facing into the sunset so it would have been very dark otherwise

A stunner! Definitely not to be messed with.
Shame about the catchlight in the eye though!!
Obviously not lol
I like it mate only got one or two i was happy with myself as there was just too many of the things in the way...
Lovely colour and nice n Detailed
I lied, I think it was +1 EV
and no, not one to be messed with, though the geese are more evil - be wary of those devils!
Very nice shot - love the lighting.
Great shot with great colouring and good use of the fill in flash to bring up the detail in the swan's feathers.
Great colours and good DOF. Bill
What, a big 'bruiser' like yerself frightened of a lickle goose ... ya big softie.
Nice fill-in here mate, has worked well.
Super detail Ade - stunning clarity and colours.
Not sure about the title tho' - are you talking about him or you?
Wonderful light and detail. Nice work.
Wonderful capture; great lighting.
The lighting lifts this way above the ordinary swan pictures. A stunning result.
me Fran - was subtle, but really referrring to me
Paul - in Otley, a goose killed a swan last year! Made the local news ! It is very quiet round there as you may guess!
well spotted and spectacular lighting
Love the water and the pose
this has been lit to perfection
Wonderful shot, beautifully lit. Best swan shot I've ever seen.
Nicely done, and a nice gloomy mod - can't beat-em
Excellent capture, love the tones on the water.
WOW! its totally far out!
Love that mod
Superbly handled shot.
Love that golden water: great lighting, and your patience in waiting for a) a clear shot and b) a good pose paid off.
Don't get the mod. Good shot but what's it got to do with the swan?
it's an example of what o need to post to get an RC these days... but this seems to have drived in there so I stand corrected!
Nice use of the flash - there's some excellent detail on those wings.
Drived in there? What's that mean?
Thankyou for the information, that's a great idea. I often even forget that I've GOT a flash. This is so beautiful that I am going to give it a go. The water is especially good.
I like the sunset on the water hits the eyes
