Hi Lilian, Brill & lucky shot. Love both V's. Ive been able to get some still shots but admire your inflight shoot expertise.
Bald comes from the old word balde, meaning white, and as you know Bald Eagles have white head and tail feathers.
So Bald Eagle basically means White Eagle.

Splendid shots. We had the rare privilege of spending a couple of hours with a wild one of these guys in Arizona. We nicknamed him 'Lazy A*se' as having taken one punt at the water then landed on an island he didn't do much apart from chase off other predators. Didn't have a camera up to the job of getting him then though we do have video evidence, so I'm so glad you brought back lovely memories of him with this set.
2 good in flight shots Lillian but I rather like V2 best,
Geoff.
An equal share of my vote here Lillian, both as good as each other ![]()

Went googling.
1. Bald in the English name is derived from the word piebald, and refers to the white head and tail feathers and their contrast with the darker body.
The bald eagle isn't bald. The word “bald” actually comes from the word “piebald” which is used to describe something that is spotty or patchy.
2. At one time, the word "bald" meant "white," not hairless.
The bald eagle is not really bald. "Bald" is from an obsolete English word meaning white.
3. Interesting fact:- When a bald eagle loses a feather on one wing, it will lose a feather on the other in order to keep its balance!
blooming marvellous, never managed such a good in flight image myself Lillian
Your work keeps getting better and better love this shot

Two terrific inflight captures, you've timed these to perfection
oh, I love the pose in no 2, you can see him coming down on his prey.
I wonder why he is called bold? the vulture looked much bolder than him!
