V2 another in flight shot with landing ''gear down''

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments yesterday
today am now off to capture some more bird images...

Have just booked for Cornwall a week from 28th April

Hi Lilian, Brill & lucky shot. Love both V's. Ive been able to get some still shots but admire your inflight shoot expertise.
Bald comes from the old word balde, meaning white, and as you know Bald Eagles have white head and tail feathers.
So Bald Eagle basically means White Eagle.

Two very fine in-flight shots of the eagle, Lillian, with V 2 showing the landing gear down quite superb.
As ever, your nature shots take some beating.......always such excellent work.

Splendid shots. We had the rare privilege of spending a couple of hours with a wild one of these guys in Arizona. We nicknamed him 'Lazy A*se' as having taken one punt at the water then landed on an island he didn't do much apart from chase off other predators. Didn't have a camera up to the job of getting him then though we do have video evidence, so I'm so glad you brought back lovely memories of him with this set.

Two fine shots Lillian. I was always under the impression that the term 'Bald' was applied because he has a white plumaged head and from a distance it appears that he is bald.
V2 for me.

Went googling.

1. Bald in the English name is derived from the word piebald, and refers to the white head and tail feathers and their contrast with the darker body.
The bald eagle isn't bald. The word “bald” actually comes from the word “piebald” which is used to describe something that is spotty or patchy.

2. At one time, the word "bald" meant "white," not hairless.
The bald eagle is not really bald. "Bald" is from an obsolete English word meaning white.

3. Interesting fact:- When a bald eagle loses a feather on one wing, it will lose a feather on the other in order to keep its balance!
