The first picture to test our new Critique gallery.
It's a studio shot of model Angelina. I've added an edge effect from the PhotoFrame Pro plug-in.
By ticking the new critique box in the upload menu I am now acknowledging that I am happy to accept constructive critique on this photo.

In my opinion, the image is strong enough without resorting to the heavy border, which unnecessarily dominates. The eye contact, lighting and pose all come together for a pleasing image. Evocative without being overt
Good work
Colin
Postives Good picture, nice eye contact. Good color and tone. Like the models pose leaning fwd. Love the skin tone
Negatives, the lower part doesnt add anything to the photo. If your trying to add alure with the nude part it doesnt work for me at all.
As a normal photo, thumbs up, as a nude it misses the mark.
Tommy
Excellent work the large version is outstanding. I love the framing you've chosen , But in some parts it has given a cast over the hair and arm is there anyway of rubbing that away slightly. The eyes are lovely. great combination. Denise x
Your model is rather well know (re anon uploads) so 1 of 2 members would have uploaded this to me. So in view of that I showed this to Trev so this is his critique;
He loves the image and the frame and in his mind he would try to use the frame effect to fill in the dark areas to the top left area and to the right of the model.
Jeanie
strong dynamic portrait K (answers on a postcard) although I would like to have seen a little light on the left eye.
This is Pete's image. I quite like the border for once ![]()
P.S. I like the model too!
The framing really works with the background and the model aint that bad either. Nice capture.
Rodd
Have done a mod on what I'd do.
I was just looking at the model and the colour of the dress and the frame didn't register for me (I was almost ignoring it). But when toned it all married up in a arty grungy type of way.
My opinion anyway. Hope it helps - if not then just ignore me ![]()
Martin.
Spotted a flaw in the system. The photo mod bit says who the pic is by. Doh! Another thing to fix. Friday night may not have been the best time to kick this feature off!
Nice one Pete, I would never have guessed it was your! ![]()
Greg
Gorgeous model, like the pose but not over keen on the lighting.
Her nose has got quite a harsh line on the shadow side and personally I would prefer to see more of her face and both eyes in this sort of pose.
Tony
I like it. I like the colours and the border. The photo catches ones attention as soon as it is seen.
Andy
Other than a little dark in the right eye this is one damm fine photo, great model, wonderful pose and just luv the frame effect Pete.
Have a good weekend.
Victor
A very very good portrait image I like this one very much. The pose, the light, the model of course. All in all great.
Aplogies Pete, but at least you were drawn to self idendity and noting the error under the mods details which indicated the author.
Left half of pic superb..... right half a bit dark and cluttered, possibly the frame in that areas to blame.
Very pretty model, love the pose, excellent colour, like the lighting......am undecided on the frame.

A eye catching composition, although that border may be a bit overdone.
Personally I don't find the pose at all flattering, leaning forward when naked seldom is. The right eye looks soft and the left too dark. There is a line running top to bottom in the background which looks like part of the backdrop, also that overlay seems a bit too much. All in all this looks like a last minute grab shot rather than a meaningful portrait, I'd put money on betting you have better than this.
I just ticked the box when I saw it. Didn't realise it was meant to be anon! I'd already signed it in the normal way!
Agrre with K that her right eye is too dark. Apart from that, the treatment is just OTT Photoshopping!
Ian
I like the lighting set up with nice tones & textures in the red material.Would like to see more of the side of her face that is in darkness. For a beautiful model I find the pose a little on the aggressive side,I'm not keen on her fingers at the bottom of the image as they add nothing to the shot for me.The outer edge of the frame is a wee bit too much but I do like the mottled effects behind her.Nice eye contact, striking model.
Janet
Very sensual feel - reminds me of Carmen. Bit too much border for me but love the pic
I like it; an imaginative approach and great eye contact with a magnificent model.
The model used and the style of the photo screams out K. I can't understand the point of trying to hide that. People are not stupid and will realise this is K's work.
Ian
Hi Ian, nothing is being hidden. This was taken in a studio at our ePHOTOzine offices. We shared the model and lighting, so will have similar results. While I was taking these shots from the higher rungs of some step ladders K was shooting low angle.
Pete Im curious... Will you be adding a bit to let the uploader make it non - anon at some point or will they be able to add it to thier portfolio when they do this?
Love the idea though..
Tommy
Pete i love the image of the model as i like the shadow play on her face plus expression! Is there away of with photo frame plug in of determining size of frame to the image or is the size preset within the program?
stay well
tonymarq
Cracking shot Pete!!
Love the lighting and the borders effective!
Dave
yes, I agree, one of your best, the lighting and choice of pose/angle together with the presentation all work so well together
Simple question, by uploading on to EPZ are we not opening ourselves to constructive critique anyway? Surely that is what the site is about.
But, while you are adding new functions, how about an icon to flag up an issue, like a cry for help? (I know I need help!!!!)
This shot is wonderful and the presentation really suits it.
Jon
Firstly Wonderful shot. Secondly The right side maybe a tad too dark, and although I like the framing, it doesn't seem to echoe the inner pic. I think if you add a border that repeats the darkest portions of the portrait, the whole thing would work better.
Richard.
wouldn't know how/where to critique this. Can't you post something bad ;o)
Find this really impressive.
not a fan of framing really, but this is different, a pleasing effect. The subject is nice too, love the sultry pose without being overtly graphic ( the less is more principle i think)
i do find the left of the face a little too dark for my taste, would have liked a bit more light there
overall great shot
steveb
It is a strong shot, my only crit would be that the top right quarter is ever so slightly too dark, particularly in the hair. A little more visible detail here I think would bring it up. Paul
Of course NOW I notice others have made the same remark....
I am not a portrait person, basically i like the shot except for the framing and shadow on the right eye.I'm not a fan of posture that way for women but it's natural and we don't always stand or sit upright.Take care.Ann![]()
I think I'll fly in the face of convention and suggest that you extend the frame across the whole picture - but less in strength than currently shown. Give the pic a texture
