I've traded in some gear and bought a new Sigma 120-300F2.8 EX DG OS APO HSM. I had hoped that this would give me a useable 600mm with the 2xTC while retaining autofocus. The lens is a bit of a beast and I'm only just getting to grips with the incredibly shallow dof at 600mm!!! Still, this is my latest attempt. I caught t in flight too but it was a mere blur ![]()

Looks pretty good to me Alun. You have captured a great pose and the focus looks perfect.

240 -600 seems to work very well. must be a heavy beat, but in good hands like yours the rewards are guaranteed!
Thanks all. Annette, it's the 120-300F2.8 but with a 2x teleconverter. The lens is heavy at nearly 7lbs so no need to go to the gym for a workout. I'll be interested to see it's performance with a 1.4TC at F4 and 420mm. Things should be a lot easier. DOF at 600mm was wafer thin. The shots sharpened up nicely buth there's only so much you can ask of a 2xTC on a zoom!
