This ant is sitting on a piece of mangrove root. It is very, very rare to see the ants still with antennas stretched so fine, so I am very happy with this picture and it was worth several hours of shooting before I managed to capture this image. The species is "Camponotus ligniperda" also known as carpenter ant. I used a external flash to capture this image.

Hi Leon! Thank You so much for nice comment! ![]()

Yes, they are small hopeless models! They run the most about all the time, but with patience and persistence, You can sometimes see them still, as when they feed each other or preening themselves. I can shoot the ants for hours without getting tired, there's always something interesting with them.
My best regards/Helena
Quote: Hello Helena, that is a splendid macro shot, our ants are tiny about 5mm long, they never stay still always looking for something, I like watching them as they are very industrious creatures, looks like an interesting portfolio, regards Leon.![]()

quote]An astonishing example of macro photography, stunning pin sharp focusing, which in turn has allowed be to roam and explore every microscopic detail of this image at will.
