My contest entry for the junior contest, themed "autumn."
Halloween is usually what I think of when I hear "autumn." Not knowing a ton about European holidays, I asked my mom if there were pumpkin patches and jack-o-lanterns during October 31st. She said no. Whether she was right or not, I thought a pumpkin patch might be a fun thing to go to and take pictures of. As you can see on the left panel of the diptych, there are hay bales stacked up on each other near a pumpkin patch that we went to. I'm not sure if it's big enough to see, but there is also a wrecked down house in the background, which kind of made me think of the spookiness of Halloween. On the left panel, I saw a dog (probably owning to the people who owned the pumpkin patch) in the field, and my mom got him to look at us. I thought it was cool to get a photo of the dog with the pumpkins.
I hope the diptych isn't too small! I don't know how to make it any bigger.
Good luck, juniors! This has probably been the funnest contest to prepare for, for me. ![]()

I love it! The pictures are amazing, and i zoomed in my computer to see the spooky house in the background.!
Good luck!
At last, here are the results, thank you for being so patient! We had 12 entries this time, each a winner in their own right. It has been really difficult to choose one over the other, but here are the prize winners:-
First - Jimster: This is a gorgeous Autumnal scene - stunning colours and fantastic reflections. Well seen and brilliantly caught!
Second - Sararose: A brilliantly presented diptych. We really like the orange tones running through both parts of the image. Brilliantly put together and beautifully presented. It's definitely Autumn when the pumpkins start appearing!
Third - Drayl002: A brilliantly timed shot, we can almost hear the clatter of their antlers as they meet! The letterbox format is the perfect shape to display their battle!
Here is a critique of the other entries:-
jwt: James' image of a fresh Daisy standing alone in a field is wonderful. A well spotted image. Autumn is a time when only one or two flowers stand alone amongst all the dead looking stems! The brilliant low point of view has made the Daisy stand out from all the other stems.
Alice170596: The sunset colours of Alice's shot are fantastic - it must have been breathtaking to actually be there. As Alice says, just because the colours of the trees have gone, there are still stunning colours to be found!
Littlejennywren: A wonderful shot of weak sunshine and long shadows! The bare branches of the silhouetted trees add a wonderful atmosphere to this Autumnal image.
Alexandral: A gorgeous capture because of the contrasting colours - bright oranges and deep black! What a scary looking carving you've made - we really liked the fact you've got as close as you could and filled the whole of the frame.
Foxaline: This really is an eye catching image, full of colour! The decorations, with their different layers and shadows, look quite creepy!
Cameraboy: What would Autumn be without the shrubs being laden with berries - there are certainly loads on this shrub! Well seen and beautifully caught - a real feast for the birds!
JennyParminter: A more muted Autumn shot, showing a gentle light across the trees on the mountain side. We like the way you've also captured some traffic, which gives a wonderful perspective.
ChloeFT: We really liked the 'painted' quality of this image. Even though the lighting must have been quite shadowed, the details on the trees are wonderful - brilliantly caught.
Rosie1234: You've gone no further then your garden to show the effects of Autumn. As you've pointed out, the Acers really shine out from the greenery. There are some lovely reflections in the pond and Karen says she really loves the Dragonfly sculpture!
If you haven't won a prize this time, I do hope you keep an eye open for the next competition. Thank you all for taking part, you all deserve a round of applause!! ![]()
