A small offering from the chaotic garden of my camera...

We were up at Whalley Abbey the other day, checking out a venue for the photography workshops Graham (Nobles) runs - a relatively unsung treasure it is, too. Lots of ruins, a riverside walk - and this lovely silver birch tree, one of the largest girthed I have ever seen, I think!

Photographically, I struggled to get the depth of field necessary to include the full tree whilst blurring the background and maintaining composition, so I went for just the nearest curve of the trunk and allowed the further curve to drift out of focus...

I loved the echoes of the autumn colours in the vegetable garden beyond in the natural coloration of the peeling bark layers...

I hope you enjoy looking.

"Drift out of focus" . . sounds a bit like me these days!
Lovely contrast of lines, textures and curves.
Hope you are well!

Excellent shot, great composition , and I think for what its worth, the DOF is spot on, very well captured indeed.

I could only stand and admire your style and approach, I hadn't the vision. But even though I stood there and watched, I never expected this. Wonderful work Carol, close to the best of you.

I can only echo what Graham said. Excellent stuff, Carol.

Wonderfully tactile image, praise from Graham too, can't be bad. This would make a tremendous large colour print. The touch of colour in the back is so special too.
