Tremendous composition from a moving boat. Great action shot Melanie, just great.
Dougie
great timing Melanie stop the action

Thanks Dougie, I was really chuffed to get the rock and lighthouse in the BG, guess I was lucky more than once that day.

I really like this Melanie, but I have an edit to suggest (although the purists will hate me for it).
If you remove the 2 birds from the top right corner the dynamic of the image takes on a new feel and helps give emphasis to a natural diagnal.
Just a thought - take it or leave it - I'm still jealous!

If you fly in over Turnhouse, this rock is like a landmark - telling every one - "you're coming home".
Beautiful image,
Johanna
A very energetic busy photo with the one at the front getting most of the glory with its fantastic colouring i do however agree with sherlob im jealous too.kaz
ive given this my star of the week as it trully feels like im there, stunning clarity.
I've looked at many, many images taken of the gannets here but I think this is the first one that makes me really feel I am there with every elements that shouts Bass Rock present (with the dominant gannet just being the icing on the cake).
You've done really well to get this looking so sharp and well put together.
Michael
very good capture and all the birds fill the frame nicely including the one in the fg too. G
They are such fantastic birds!
And you've got them in a fantastic setting too!
Cheers, Goggz
What a great shot. Love everything about it.........Sandy
A fantastic shot, well worthy of a medal. I aspire to take shots like this.
fish.
A superb shot and an excellent combination of the sharp action of the birds and the landscape.
Tim
Excellent. I am usually hanging on to the side of the boat and unable to take any photographsbut you have produced a wonderful image.
The trip you took is high on my wish list - I can only echo the comments of those who say they're jealous (and rightly so).
A superb capture of an event one has to experience in order to understand the difficulty of getting the rock and the action at the same time. The foreground Gannet, sharp as a tack, makes this image especially magical.
Best regards,
Bill
WOW< I hae only ever seen video footage of this, this is a stunner.

Fantastic shot, Melanie. My favourite British sea bird. I love being out on the ocean with these magnificent birds plunging from the skies as they feast on the shoals of mackerel just below the waves.
Well done on the HC.
Ted
