Yes I do realise that the whites are slightly blown out especially behind the head but I for some reason still like the image and the face is what I like.

Good morning Alexa, this is superb, amazing detail and colours, beautifully timed and captured, hope you are having a good Easter.
Hugh
Excellent capture of this Black-headed Gull with excellent clarity & color. Because of the angle of the sun on the tight white feathers, there are white highlights behind the eye, where there is loss of some feather detail. I guess you captured with JPEG, and not RAW, but you can run a tonal curves adjustment to the region, to see, whether you can pull some feather detail & tone down the highlights. This is a common problem, that we all face when photographing bright, especially white, subjects in bright reflected light. I really enjoy your excellent work, and hoping that you had a nice Easter...Peter

you do well to capture these bird shots in flight, something I have not yet mastered
It's a very lovely capture, Alexa, an excellent bit of work. Why are we so obsessed with a bit of blown-out highlights?!!! It looks good to me, and I'd be happy to have taken it.
Hope you've had a great Easter,

I like this Alexa but can't understand why you have 'critique' here as you already said you knew the whites were blown a little.....does anyone bother to read your intro ![]()
Geoff.
