Here in BC, these gulls are referred to as Bonaparte Gulls. In the spring they start with a black spot on the cheek. That molts until the whole head becomes black in summer. I heard Napoleon's brother was an avid birder...thus the name. These gulls are smaller than most and are very interesting. Not sure what V2 is but he is not a Bonaparte. Nice three images. TG
