Sunrise on Bontecou Lake in New York. I got out at 5am the other day to get some pictures. I took both of my cameras, but unfortunately I am still learning to use the Canon EOS10D so not many of the shots worked out too well.

This one was taken with my point & shoot.

suggestions and comments welcomed.

Thanks
Kevin.

Glad to see such a good photo from a point and shoot camera this is what I do. As I don't have the money for an all singing and dancing SLR camera. I push point and shoot camera's to the limit.

I feel your pain Gavin, but I must admit I like my little Panasonic. It has done me well. Someone once told me that photography is 90% eye/ talent & 10% technicality/ equipment used. I am entered into an outside competition with my little point and shoot and have been selected to be published and to move up to the finals with a grand prize of $6,500. I'm holding thumbs to win.

So be encouraged friend. All things are possible when you put your heart and mind to it.

Regards
Kevin.

An exceptionally nice image, - gorgeous in the large version.

Loaded a couple of mods, - increased shadow detail in mod 1, and removed foreground plants and warmed in mod 2, - might have ruined the shot though!

I like the mods. Thanks again for the encouragement and suggestions. I learn a lot from others by their mods and way of perceiving an image.

Regards
Kevin.

This is a really good shot. The darkness is appropriate for the time of day and contrasts well with the bright patch of sky and its reflection. The sunrise itself isn't dramatic - just a hint of red on the horizon - but I think that restraint works very well.

nice image especially from a point and shoot.
be patient and persevere in learning to use your 10D as it will be well worth it.
