A shot of the Brandberger Kolm on the first day of our recent trip.
This was taken from near the Steinerkogl Haus, at a distance of 5 km. I used max. optical zoom on the Pentax, equiv. to about a 300mm lens, and then cropped the image to give me the composition I wanted.
We had hoped to climb this one and at this stage it looked really possible, but then the snow came. See a later upload.

Thanks very much Guys, good of you to comment.
Jim, I too have lost several good friends in the mountains but the one I always remember with great affection is my erstwhile climbing partner of many years standing. We always claimed we were safer on rock than in the car getting there, as we were free to chose our own degree of risk in the mountains. Sadly this proved to be true when Mick was killed when a lorry travelling in the opposite direction jackknifed in front of his car.
Enjoy life while you have it!
Thanks again.
George.
How very true George, life is for the living.
Good to be back in the mountains with your wonderful shots.
Thank you.
Richard
Tremendous shot George, looks a great height, super composition, well done.

Very good basically George - you've chosen lighting conditions which would test the best in the world - sun and shade and sky and earth - so whilst the top element is really dramatic - I feel there is a little too much of the shaded valley not enlivening the shot - phew!! ![]()

Mavis, Malik & Mary, Mary, Dave, so many thanks for your kind comments.
I'll post a shot taken later in the trip Mavis, which will show just how much conditions changed.
It's not a really big one Mary, it's below the glaciation line at 2700m. high, but it is a long walk up from the nearest access point, Brandberg, with about 1650m. of climbing.
I left the tree line well in Dave to try to emphasise the hight of the climb and to be honest I didn't want to crop too close in case I started to lose definition..
Thanks again everyone.
George.
Lovely light and shadow, with the bare peak contrasting nicely with the wooded mountainside. Well done George.
