From a different angle perhaps from the butter end of the shot so that the crust of the slices are all showing the grain of the product. Your choice of aperture would then have allowed the milk jug to be a little more out of focus rather than the grain of the bread thats immediately to the front of the image as viewed. I also think you should have kept all of the kinife in view. I generally like your food product idea and this is what made me view it in the first place, but seeing as you have requested critque I've left some.

I think this looks better in colour Louise - good colour harmonies. I have uploaded a mod where I have darkened the butter slightly using a curves adjustment as it is quite light compared with eg the bread. The milk is pure white but I don't think that matters much as milk is white and we don't need to see any detail there.
It's going out of focus at the front left in particular. Try using a smaller aperture (bigger f number). At f2 you have the shallowest depth of field. When you get your tripod you may notice a difference as well.
Best wishes

Hello! Wow! It has been a while! I'm sorry I didn't respond to this earlier, but I went on a college trip for a week!! It was nice, i got some pictures, of course, but there wasn't much to take pictures of on the long trip there and back! It was in Wisconsin (Midwest) and I believe my eyeballs are burnt out with corn and pine trees and no houses and flat desolation! lol!
I close my eyes i think i see corn fields!! :0 lol. but anyway, i'll upload some of the college pictures that i had time to take!
Thank you both very much for your help! Guess what?! I got my tripod!! I'm SOOOO excited!! I'm gonna play with it more when i'm unpacked and everything! Thanks again! ![]()
