I reckon it could do with a touch more contrast. The 'levels' histogram tapers right away at the LHS.
I've uploaded a mod in which I simply used threshold curves. The blacks are now black and the whites, white but obviously, you'll make your own adjustments.

Hi Paul,

The shot is exposed beautifully and you had some nice light here given the time of day and how clear is the air to give you nice colours all the way to the back. I suppose I'm going to have to be the party pooper and say something negative apart from the contrast. Yes it does need a little contrast but only a small amount, not over the top because the image is very good on its own. The problem for me and it is a great image so this is only a minor niggle is, when I look at it I feel that I need to see more of the valley and less of the sky. Yes the sky is very nice but it is just that, blue sky and the trees in the foreground would have been much more interesting and give the whole scene a base to sit on. So for me it looks to be too high a viewpoint and it needs dropping down to include more foreground.

Hopefully this isn't the only shot you have.

stunning view i have to say, made famous by Ansel Adams of course whose use of tonality and composition is the stuff of legend. that may be your biggest problem - its a known view and i doubt his could be bettered. have a look at his shots they are all over the interweb.

but taking what you have is all we can comment on because i dont know if its from a well known viewing platform or if you have to walk for miles to get a view.

the sky is blue and the air pretty clear and some nice clouds would have been a bit better. the one you do have near the half dome is a little blown out and if it were mine and i was hoping to print large, id be tempted to lose the clouds you do have and inport a few interesting ones from somewhere else. you may of course not agree or find that type of modification acceptable but i have no problem with helping what is there.

the bottom is a bit tightly cropped and it feels a little starved of foreground interest but the shapes of the mountains are nice and the waterfall adds a lot.

its a bit hazy down in the valley and a bit of local adjustment to contrast may help and id rework a bit with less sharpness, using localised sharpening only. i thing you overegged the sharpness a little. the white on the left rock wants toning down a bit.

i too would go mono on this but it woud be a waste of time if you do so without adressing the blown white areas because any conversion you make and it needs to be a subtle conversion would make these look much worse than in colour.

then in mono you could unload with dodging and burning to make a classic. but like i say its a classic already this would be your version and it would be better to try and put your own twist on it somehow. maybe you have other views that work too.

Its a really nice panorama.

This is the same image as one posted earlier, and I agree with Paulholloway that the original image is better balanced that this one. It looks better with more space on the bottom and less sky, so I would re consider your crop. Youve done some good work in improving the sharpness.

For this one, - the colour balance is a little cool, and as mentioned, needs more contrast, and some highligts are blown, but can be recovered. In the mod Ive made it a more panoramic image by removing some sky, BUT I wouldnt do that with the original shot.

Uploaded 2 mods, - the first cropped, and the colour temp warmed, exposure reduced, highlights toned down, and the second a mono.


I would be happy to adjust the original full sized image for you if you like the mod, just send me a PM with your email address and I will respond with mine.
