`I have been here before,' I said; I had been there before; first with Sebastian more than twenty years ago on a cloudless day in June, when the ditches were creamy with meadowsweet and the air heavy with all the scents of summer; it was a day of peculiar splendour, and though I had been there so often, in so many moods, it was to that first visit that my heart returned on this, my latest."
These are the first lines of Brideshead revisited. Actually I have never been before and I wasn't really in the best place to capture it .This is taken from across the Great Lake. The light and sky was also pretty grey so decided to upload this as a mono .Many thanks for recent clicks and comments .All very much appreciated.....Phil

Stark beauty, Phil. Your pov without the snow might not have worked but the white shows off the trees and sandwiches the building between the sky so well.

The title is somehow unavoidable, and appropriate because everyone over a certain age has been here before in a way. It's part of our shared culture.
I like the stark severity of snow and b&w here, it balances the exuberance of the architecture.

.............and there was me thinking what a wonderful description of your first visit "when the ditches were creamy with meadowsweet and the air heavy with all the scents of summer" ![]()

I have been here before. I visited this place many years ago with the Earl of Carlisle who was a partner in the firm I worked for . He lived at Naworth Castle in Cumbria and his brother George lived here. You have recorded id it exceptionally well Phil
