Bruce Gilden of Magnum Photos fame, doing his stuff.....still pounding the streets at 65yrs old in his unique ambush style. Armed with a Leica compact and off camera flsh, comes in close and......pow. Job done, move on, nothing to see here!

I bumped into him at Oxford Circus Sunday 18/Dec/11. Took 3 of him at work, this isthe best of the bunch.

I like the movement in the shot, suggests an immediacy.

Well spotted and captured. Definitely has a sense of movement and ambush, although the guy with the fag looks as though he might not be the safest of targets.

You have captured the intensity if his ambush expression really well.

I like it too, it works. The expressions of the smoker and the photographer are what make it for me

Afraid I go the other way. It is difficult to tell what is going on as the camera in the guys hand is a blur and difficult to make out. It almost looks like he is physically attacking the other chap. I think I might have preferred colour for this even though it is street photography, and the focal point appears to be well back in the frame - the bus looks quite sharp.

Hi Paul, interesting what you say re focal point. The picture was taken using "Snap function" set at 2.5 metres. However, I am aware that DOF even at f1.9 can remain pretty sharp for quite some distance beyond the setting..

It is also interesting to see your point of view because I know what is going on, as I took the shot. I knew it was a street photo ambush. I didn't really realise it would be difficut for someone else to make out what was going on..

To be frank, colour didn't do it for me. It just didn't carry the drama at all.

I appreciate your (and the others) input.

Cheers
