Congrat and well done, itīs a beautiful shot. I think that yes maybe you should have made a closer crop, but this works well too.

Morning Don
I like the image as you've presented it and considering it's your first one, I think you've captured the butterfly well and it certainly gets my vote!
However, if it was mine....and I was entering it into our camera club competiton I would have cropped it just above the pink flower at the bottom of the image as your eye is drawn between the butterfly and flower and I would have left some room at top for the butterfly to fly into.

Agree with Gill not much room to fly into,also maybe a little tweak on brightness/contrast on the b/fly a super effort tho',I've still to capture one...

Agree with the other comments.....as the image is a tad short at the top,i would have taken just under half of the bottom away.Saying that it is still a lovely image and well done.
