One from the botanical gardens the other day, just spotted this cactus centre and as I had never seen one with colours like this I just had to take a pic of it. This is straight from the CF card with no alteration.

Please look large if you have the time

Thank you as always for all your C&C's very much appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

Hugh

Spectacular colors & hues, clarity, & depth on your fine "Cactus Flower" image, Hugh. I have never seen one like this, & maybe someone will be able to identify the species or genus(I think that this my be a "species of Bromiliad")...Peter

Good image - LexEquine is correct - it is a Bromeliad. The name is Fascicularia - I grow it in my garden. It is completely hardy and increases well.
The best specimens I have seen of this were in Cuba several years ago where it grows abundantly to the size of, say, a Yucca over here.It certainly looks very impressive with its red inner leaves and the flowers are a big bonus.

If we did not see this, it would ba hard to believe how beautiful nature can be, even with the most hardy desert plant like a cactus. Amazing color combinations. Thanks for sharing.
