The Chiesa degli Scalzi, or ‘Church of the Barefoot Ones’ is named after the Barefoot Carmelites monks who have made this church their home for more than three centuries. Built between 1660 and the early 18th century, the church stands alongside the St Lucia railway station (the building on the left hand edge) and is one of Venice’s most beautifully and ornately designed churches, with a grand façade designed by Giuseppe Sardi.
This was shot at around 8:50 p.m. with camera on my Gorillapod resting on the parapet of the Ponte Scalzi bridge, using the self-timer to avoid any camera shake.
My last upload from my Venice holiday, and also my last upload before Christmas, so would again like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and thanks to all for your support and encouragement throughout the year, it really has been appreciated ![]()
