Same settings as previous image though positioning of the lights altered slightly. Hard part exposing the flower correctly to capture detail and retain rich colours. Still no frame but slight circular vignette to draw the eye in. Does it work. let me know, you can comment without voting so some critique would be appreciated. Again limited subject matter due to other issues.

How about using a reflector or some fill in flash from above..........![]()

That is such a lovely shot. I can imagine how difficult it must be to take. To me the only thing I feel is missing is a little light on the inside below the center of the flower to show that detail. I love the photo!
Another beauty, Russell, I agree with above comments about more light in the middle; I know that is sometimes difficult to achieve with lighting, especially with this sort of colour, but if I've got this problem I sometimes do a well feathered selection of the middle of the flower and use a levels layer on just that selection in ps to achieve the desired result. Not sure about the vignette, don't whether it's the colour or whether I'd prefer the plain background - trial and error on that I think .............. sorry this has turned out a bit long, but you did ask for 'critique'; anyway all of that does not detract from the beauty of the image and the lovely simplicity of it's presentation.

Jenni and others. Thank you for your thoughts. Appreciated. It is likely I will resubmit his image in the future with all of your thoughts combined. I am so far out of my comfort zone that rather than go for a style that has previously taken me past that magic 30 votes I try and view each as an individual. As a preference I like light and airy but this particular bloom got me thinking. Dangerous I know. ![]()
A tad dark in the centre as aforementioned. My only extra thought would be the shape of the flower and stalk would be better in a portrait crop rather than square, keep the vignette but it would need to be oval and maybe switch the background colours around (would need to see that though before being definite).
