Crazy but true, I visited the WWT Reserve at Welney last Thursday 22nd December and was really taken aback to see this Peacock Butterfly taking advantage of the winter sunshine. It did settle very briefly and I was able to take this photograph. No doubt it was confused by the sudden uplift in temperature that day and thought that Spring had arrived but I expect the experts will say that it is another sign of climate change!

A superb shot of this peacock butterfly, excellent detail and colours. I haven't seen a butterfly for a couple of months now

Don't question it, just appreciate this lovely opportunity, well taken.
These are indeed lovely butterflies Albert. I've seen a few yellows here in my yard this week, but alas, there are no plants for them to nectar on so I doubt they will live long. I have put out a Gatorade mix in a bowl with a sponge so they can dine - hopefully they will find the mix.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you and yours the best for 2012.

an amazing find! nature is really out of tune this year. It is the 31st of December and it is +11º here!
Good heavens! I knew nature was all topsy turvey this winter but this is astounding! You must have got all excited to see a peacock in December.
Lovely interesting image Albert.
Wishing you a very happy and fulfilled 2012 and thank you so much for all the support and kindness you have shown me -- well since I joined the site really. You gave me my first UA - and I was so excited and pleased - I will never forget how happy and proud you made me feel.
