I recently visited Newcastle to see the Christmas Lights for the first time in a number of years.
Overall, I was disappointed at the low standard of Christmas lights. Northumber land Street (one of the main shopping streets in Newcastle) was particularly poor, with only 6 sets of lights strung across its qtr mile length (of which, 2 sets were not working!!!)
That said, I thought this view at the top of Grey Street was very festive, with nets of lights (the blue 'icicles' were animated) and lights wrapped around the column of Grey's Monument.
I've added a duplicate background layer with a 'find edges' filter, with an 'overlay' blending mode. this has brought out the mid-tones of the buildings.
