Another from the McFade Training workshop with the Chicago Blues Brothers band. This time a bit of a candid as Claire and Gareth were watching something, possibly Ade.
Some great feedback on the last 2 shots so hoping for moreSmile

This ought to work, but the balance somehow jars for me. I think it might work better for me flipped, so that she led into the frame from the left. As it is we 'enter' the frame with the soft face. She's the foreground, the sharp area, but he's the face that I really want to look at first! Does that make sense? Now if he was in the foreground and she was a soft background presence...

Mod uploaded, yep it works better for me. It's the old left/right thing, we instinctively want to read from the left, the left side anchors the image.

Thanks, Moira, ah yes the flipping trick works well on this occasion and I am surprised Willie didn't suggest it. Last time I tried it the model had a word tattood on her arm so it didn't work.
Thanks also to Willie and John for the comments.

Just added the "inverse" of the image out of interest

was this on the town hall steps?

before Claire got changed by the look of things

it is a bit like one of those movie stills you see - and I probably was shouting something at them Smile

The main thing with this kinda shot is to hang on in there with the camera ready till something happens - like one of them cracking and laughing, or something on those lines. That's a lot easier to "orchestrate" when you're calling the shots - you can say something daft and get a reaction, so in this instance you'd have been waiting for me to say something.

V1 is first rate and I am happy with it as presented. Flipping works too, but no better. V2 does not work. Remove the girl completely, then it does.

Pretty sure it was on the steps, Ade, and I think they are listening intently to you. Will try to remember to orchestrate things in future, definitely an area for big improvement.
Thanks, Paul, was never sure about V2 but it's just to demonstrate that we try different ideas.
Cheers,

Phil
