This photo was taken in the middle of the day at Sydney's Cocatoo Island. Using a Canon EOS 400D with a 17-85mm EFS lens. Taken in manual mode with a shutter speed of 1/125, aperture of f9, ISO 100 and a focal length of 20mm. This is as it came from the camera with no adjustments or cropping. Some thoughts on composition and settings would be appreciated.

Hi Glenn, the settings seem ok to me exposure looks good too. I would though consider:-
1) Cropping a bit from the RHS to get rid of the smoke stack
2) Brighten the image a bit
3) Add some contrast
have done a mod.
Cheers and hope this helps
PS: - As a record shot this works well, but maybe a good idea to give a description of what we are looking at ![]()

Cockatoo Island was a former ship building site in Sydney Harbour and as such there is lots the old machinery still in tact on the Island. I don't know what these pieces are off but they remind me those big stone head carvings seen on some doco when I was a kid! I have some photo's of the old cranes and lathes and things still on the island so I can post some up if you want to see them prabhusinha.
