Went on a get lost trip with a friend into cornwall yesterday, found a lovely place called polkerris a tiny harbour with beach and cliffs.. and a pub with lovely food right on the beach..
We could see a bird that kept hovering over the cliff, so we had to climb the steep cliff path to get a better look.. This is found I found these beautiful common blues..
But we cant make out what the hawk is.. (v5)so if anyone can tell us I can stop thinking about it lol, its driving me nuts.. the closest I can see is a goshawk, it was at least as big as a buzzard.. not a brilliant shot but the best i could get..
All one handed macro shots except the hawk..
Thanks or all the brilliant comments and all the clicks on my white butterflies, and of course I`m chuffed to bits with the 2 user awards.. thanks a million xxxxxxxxxxxxx

A lovely series of pictures. The bird looks like a Kestrel to me and they are usually seen hovering, but the size you describe would be a bit large for a Kestrel.

I may well be wrong ( and probably am!! ) but this looks very much like a Kestrel in the hover to me. Super butterfly shots Bun.

Brilliant captures!

As for the mystery bird, the size would be right for a Goshawk, but the tail looks more like a Kestrel. I've looked at the RSPB site and according to that, Goshawks don't go down as far as Cornwall! Very odd!

A brilliant set of close ups of these mating common blues, the detail and colours you've captured are first class. Adonis blues are larger than common blues and are a similar size to chalkhill blues which they are more closely related to

Definitely can't help you with the bird of prey, Bun, but you've got EXCELLENT shots of these blues bumping bums!

The treat is V2, where we get to glimpse the gorgeous topside of the wings Smile
