Another from Chambers Farm Wood. I *think* it is a common darter. Will have to get me a book.
Tiny little pond with some lilly pads and a couple of these wee beasties.
I will have to get a macro lens...
1/500sec f/8 200mm.
cracking shot what a beautiful colour I like the background too
This is just superb
Lovely detail and colours. Really stands out against that plain green background.
Great macro shot you have captured colour & detail well.
Nice detail & colour good dof to isolate the subject.
Chambers Farm wood is about 10 mins away from me,good location & that pond is tiny,..didn't spot any when I was last down there !! well seen.
Excellent shot, lovely sharpness and the background could'nt be better!
Janet - thanks for the comment. I live in Waddington, about half hour drive from CFW. On;y been there the one time, but will certainly be going back.
Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments.
I am saving up for a macro lens - then I will really be able to capture the wonder of these fascinating creatures!
Came back for another peep & look what has happened, well done, congratulations !
WOW!! I am stunned! My second EC!
I'd like to thank everyone... my agent... my producer... Elvis... the Queen. LOL!
BTW - can anyone tell me why this is 'By:User Anonymous'?? System obviously recognises that it was uploaded by me.
That's because it was uploaded as a critique photo. Critique photos do not display the photographer's name. This critique feature is new and is work in progress.
Let me know if you want me to mark this as a non-critique photo so your name appears.
(Great photo by the way).
Thanks John. Didn't realise that that was the case. Please mark it as a non-critique photo. I will read up on how that process works.
Nice clear detail, especially like the wings. Congrats on the EC, well deserved! Spot on! Click!!!
well done dad! i was hoping id get one before you but nevermind!
Nice colours, pose etc and well done on the EC - but the insect looks a bit blurred on my monitor. Probably just me.
Julian, thanks for taking the time to comment. I admit I would like it to be sharper too - but until I have save enough for the Sigma 150mm macro I will have to surfice with this level of quality :o(
Quite nice colours, background works well, but for me theres not quite enough detail on the wings. A slightly questionable editors award in my opinion but overall its a good shot I think.
I think there was a compliment in there somewhere Matt?!
It is always a balancing act between DoF and bokeh.
Once I get my macro lens I will be able to get the shots I know I can.
In the mean time do I ask Pete to take back the EC?
Sorry if I sound too negative. I always aim to give my honest opinions and don't dish out false praise or nice pic type comments.
I do actually like the shot, its just my personal preference for more wing detail and my question over the EC wasn't aimed at you regarding the award, I've seen so many dragonfly shots of high quality get nothing at all so I find it strange the way the awards are chosen sometimes.
I think it would help if the editor wrote something on each EC photo, about why it stands out etc.
What a great shot. I might add that the detail is great.
i like this better than most other dragonfly pics... don't know why!!!
