We recently had very rough seas, and the morning light was beautiful. I like the patterns of the waves on the beach . Just as I was about to take the shot a surfer came along and sat there. I rather like his presence in the shot. Any comments, suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you for looking.

Love the light and it been in mono works well, great with the surfer sitting on the sand, personally I would like to see a bit of coastline in the bg, otherwise I like it!

Hi Marguerite, you have quite an evocative picture here, we can imagine the contemplation involved very easily. I would however suggest a change of composition for you and have uploaded a mod to demonstrate it.

I feel your subject would have been even better had he been located in the lower left junction of thirds, maybe even closer to the left edge. That way he has more space to look into and therefore more space for the viewer to place his thoughts into if you see what I mean.

It is generally better anyway to allow space ahead of people as otherwise what is behind becomes redundant in the scheme of things and therefore not a good part of your picture.

I hope that makes sense to you anyway have a look at the mod and see if you can see what I mean.

Frank

Nice moody shot, and it suits mono. You did well to control the highlights.

You couldnt very well ask him to move, but with some care, you can move him in photoshop as in the mods.

Regards

Willie

Thank you all very much for your helpful comments. I flipped the image horizontally, I believe it looks better now. Marguerite

The fact that you mentions rough seas it would have been really nice to see the surfer looking out towards to rough seas in the picture.
