Well back from holiday, and had my first trip out last night. Hopefully I will be able to look at a few PF's over the weekend as I've a lot to catch up on, photography has been very low down on the priority list for what now seems like months.
I had some great light for about 10 minutes.
Only to look at the camera when I got back to the car - B*gger me it was only set to ISO 1600 !!! aahh I thought (or words to that effect). Anyone been there ?
Back home, expecting to delete the lot I had a quick look and I was astounded by the (almost) lack of noise and then only very very minimal NR in Lightroom. Although I did have to change my workflow from the one I had intended to do. I was going to try HDR again (not done that for Landscapes in over a year) to contribute to HDR group.
The first image of several from the Peaks in preparation for the following :

Arkwright's Mill plays host to an exhibition of landscape photography of the Peak District.
I am very pleased to have the opportunity to exhibit alongside two photographers who's work I greatly admire and often find inspirational.

well it looks spot on to me Nick! Beautiful Peak Lighting too....mmmmmmmm.....great stuff as usual
Wonderful light...spot exposure and great composition.
I did the 1600 iso thing only a week ago...had been doing low light the night before and then did a sunny afternoon on 3 Cliffs beach on Gower...something should have triggered in my brain when I was achieving speeds of 1/8000th of a second !! ![]()
Beautiful shot Nick - wonderful light !
Yep - done that also, and thankfully got away with it. But it does teach you a lesson to check all settings in future. But no doubt will forget again at some time.
Chris
Yes I'm normally so thorough before I set off to reset all settings clean filters, lenses etc. This time it was a spur of the moment decision to go out when I saw the light changing. But I have done it before (not this drastic) and no doubt will do it again. Its why I admire the professionals so much as they never seem to get it wrong .... or do they ![]()
In the Saarland last year we were taken from a fairly gloomy museum on to a viewpoint overlooking the loop in the Saar. Got some really satisfying compositions. Checked the camera settings as we were driving away...
This has turned out considerably better!
Moira
Thanks everyone, Moira whenever I've done this in the past the images were almost unusable - I did the same 2 years ago with the D300 and they were borderline at ISO800 (far, far worse than this) everything you've read about the Nikon FF's is spot on. I think the problem is I do a lot of things other than landscapes that need higher ISO's.
We could start a thread about our photo mishaps - there again mine would probably stretch to a couple of pages! This wouldn't even make the top 20. I had 3 at this very location (almost exact spot) 3 years ago! (Remember Fran?)
It certainly is great light, Nick, and it's what makes this beautiful scene stunning. Just love those sunbeams lighting the distant hills.
And yes, I've forgotten to change back my lSO settings on more than one occasion!
