I have been away to Plymouth, from Jersey, over the last five days and whilst we were there,my wife had booked us a Falconry introduction at Dartmoor Hawking,School of Falconry.
The two and a half hour session was amazing,we flew four species of Owl,one of which is the largest Owl in the world, the Siberian Eagle owl,Bubo bubo, weighing some Five and a half pounds, to a tiny Scops Owl at five ounces.
We also flew a Harris Hawk and a Saker Falcon, whose speed was absolutely incredible.
To be able to partake in flying these birds was totally awesome,I have only ever seen displays of Falconry before.
I did manage to get some photographs of course, but not to many of the birds in flight, because I was flying them and when I wasn't,I was way to close to the action to capture it.
The whole experience was fantastic and the knowledge that our Falconer,Martin Philpott, passed on was extremely interesting.
Martin was keen to answer any questions we had and also put us at ease about handling the birds.
I can't recommend the Dartmoor Hawking, School of Falconry highly enough,we had a superb time and a great experience with them.
ISO400 Raw capture (Handheld)
