Ever since investing in a range of ND Grads, and a Circular Polarising Filters, I have wonder to myself "What is the difference?", and "Do we really need to have both?". This image was captured at Wakehurst Place last year during a spate of particularly nice Autumnal Weather. I shows what of the many deep pools that adorn the beautiful gardens. This one was taken using a Circular Polarising Filter. Could you please advise...

Have a great day, Regards Nathan

Good strong image, the filter appears to have done its job on the water but left the sky a little leak. Getting the ballance is never easy.
Note to oneself, must get filters out more often.
Cheers
Martin

Certainly works well on the water, Nathan, but looks a bit unreal with the lighter sky. Cropping the sky may be an option.

I agree with Dave that the sky reflection does look dark compared to the sky, in this situation I would expose correctly for the fore to mid ground and use grads to correct the sky.

We can still enjoy looking at photographs whether they are perfect or not. i would imagine this is near enough to what you had hoped for.

I just know that polarisers cut down reflections and enhance the colours Nathan.
Good shot, but the colours are just a tad too strong for me !!

I think , if you used NG filter as well for the upper part, this would have been even better.

Being as I don't use filters, I can't give advice. However I think you have captured a wonderful reflection. Moira

Looks good to me... You can always correct the sky later on. Topaz springs to mind or the nd filters in Lightroom.

The polarising effect depends a lot on your angle to the light source, too.
