Last night we had the 53rd Annual Detroit-Windsor Fireworks show take place. Took the family out as I have been waiting to photograph some firework since I got my camera. The show was over 28 mins in length.

All are shot with a D3100 50mm f/1.8D in between F8-11 in Bulb mode on a Velbon Sherpa 200r tripod. Looking for your honest opinion on these.

Fireworks are not the easiest subject to get right, but you would appear to have done a sterling job here: very well done, Mike.

Thanks. All I had was my 50mm, so it was difficult in some of my shots as I was limited in the range. First time out, so I thought I did pretty well.

One thing here is that without your description I would have had to guess if this was fireworks or some fibre optic light display. I feel that in order to show fireworks to maximun effect it is necessary to include something, hands with sparklers, house tops with large displays, something with which to associate the firework.
Think about roof tops in the dark, only lit by the light emanating from such a powerful firework explosion overhead.
As a first attempt however, you are to be commended.

I find it a bit static , but how to solve it? I wonder if a much longer exposure continuing after the fireworks have died down would have shown some smoke or clouds lit by the moon (if there was one) as it seems a bit too harsh with the dead black background and the dead sharp fireworks. I's lacking a little romance , in fact it's too good and clinical, it has none of those accidents that happen with firework shots. I hope this helps.

This is a well executed technical image in difficult circumstances. pictorially, it is a pity there were not more varied fireworks in the image to give more variation in colour and structure. Rather out of your control.

There are others that I have. I will post them up for you to judge on and provide your C&C's.

Cheers
