A female adonis blue butterfly trying to evade the clutches of a crab spider that is lurking at the back of this devils bit scabious. I saw this mini drama unfold at Swelshill Bank near Stroud back at the beginning of September. The butterfly managed to fly off without any harm coming to it as did the burnet moth pictured in v3 which landed on the flower a short time after.

A wonderful trio Ed, has to be V1 for me mate ![]()
A magical set of images Ed, each one full of their own finer attributes. Extremely hard to select a particular favourite as they are all so very well captured. However i shall stick my neck out a little and chosen the Six Spotted Burnet Moth, as he looks quite magnificent in his fine red and black cloak.
Regards Nathan
Oh wow, nature red in tooth and claw even when the teeth and claws are minute! Great set, macro photo journalism.
Moira
They certainly would have be "nice captures" if the crab spider had managed to grab hold of them, it would have filled his larder for a day or two!
Well spotted Ed very dramatic captures.
Regards
Trev.

That wouldn't be hard, even Ade's hedgehog cam is more exciting to watch than the soaps!![]()

Quote: 3 good captures Ed - well done! Hope you had an ice cream too!
Lou
I did, I think I had the cookies and cream flavour, Winstones organic ice cream is to be recommended for anyone visiting Rodborough Common and Swelshill Bank![]()
very well spotted and taken!!
a heinous murderer that never happened.. white crabs seem to hide frequently in these heads. I have seen a bee captured while another one and a burnett moth on the same flower never noticed a thing
Many thanks for all your comments and clicks, they are much appreciated, Ed
