Another stab at light painting
td5 2004, very clean
On first sight, a shot of a Landrover Discovery. With a little more thought, I can see a very well conceived and executed shot, using light painting at the perfect time of day for this .... dusk. Night sky just doesn't work.
May I suggest: Stopping down even more to get a longer exposure of say 30 seconds, to allow you to run behind the disco and light the grass from underneath. That will give definition to the lower bumper and a little more to the cills. Aside from that, a great shot of a superb condition Discovery.
I agree with Colin on this, if I am not mistaken this technique was used for the advert of the last or one before last Toyota Rav4 (or was it the Nissan Qashqai?) "what have we created?"
Thanks for the comments annettep38 and ColinEJ, though if you saw the car in daylight you may not be so generous! This technique seems to flatter cars.
I get your point about a little back lighting, I'm still trying to get an effect that I like. I tried it on the 'Qashqai' image previously but did it with a flash and didn't like the hotspots that created. The tube I painted this with dosen't seem to have enough power to throw light very far, probably time to try a torch!
I don't know if I'm breaking rules here but this is a layered image, each light streak on a seperate layer and blended in ps so it'd be fairly easy to add lighting under the car. I'll keep trying.
You're probably right Pablo, it's not a new technique, just my take on it!
