Don't Go to Work Daddy!!

Yes, I wish Smile
Just a snap from this morning. I've been using my 50mm/f1.7 more and experimenting with shallow depth of field. Of course, it's a real pain with kids (especially this one!) because they don't keep still for even 500ms!! LOL!

Still, I rather liked the colour and angle, so I thought I'd share this summery image.

As Mr H. would say, this is "straight" photography. No tricks, practically no PS (a bit of sharpening). Pretty much straight out of camera (cropped RHS).

Thanks K. Yes, it is soft. Trying to shoot a moving target with almost no depth of field is a bit tricky! LOL!

Lovely tones on the face. I know the feeling about trying to photograph the kids - you've done extremely well on a moving target!

Great shot - the skincolour is beautiful here. I think though that I would crop a little more from the left so that the shape of the toy is not completely visible. BTW - a lovely kid - how can you go to work......

Nice one Matt - don't like cute baby shots, but this isn't! (though he definitely cute!). Love the angle really can't avoid his eyes which say it all.

Thanks Jacqueline! I think Thomas the Tank Engine would be mortified :o)

Skin tones largely down to Capture One and a calibrated monitor... a loooong story: here.)

I like the angle and the exposure is good but the softness in the eyes lets the shot down a bit. I know how hard these are too so I can sympathise. I'm going away to visit our friends in France next week and I always take loads of pictures of their two beautiful daughters (2 and 3 year olds), but don't ask them to stand still for a pico second as it's not going to happen.

Also with a depth of field of 1.7, even if the focus was spot on, the back eye might still have been soft (or the front depending on the your focal point) For such a shallow dof, a viewpoint that has the eyes equi-distant from the camera might help. So just say to your son, "Hold your head right there my lad whilst I move around and get the camera equi-distant from both eyes. That's it, hold it there and..."

;o)

Hahaha! ROFL! Yeah, I can just imagine him responding to that invitation! Thanks for the critique I always appreciate your honest comments! In fact, it wasn't f1.7, I think it was f3.5... I know the focus lets it down, but I shot a load and this was the sharpest. Still, there's always next time...

That's right, put them to work early. Get plenty of pictures that you can sell in a photo library and when he's four or five, he should be ready for chimney sweeping as a second income ;o)

love it, so natural, and fresh, just how I like'm, thanx, click (*:*)
