I would forget this shot and go out and try again.There are plenty of Mallards around.
Unfortunately all colour and feather details have been blown out of this shot from over exposure.
Try a set of exposures up to -1EV, see which works best.
Dont be afraid to waste shots in finding what gives you the best results in very strong light conditions.
Your shots will improve when you get control over the light.

Thanks for your comments. I'm still trying to get the hang of getting the right exposure - I'm forcing myself to use manual mode to get a feel for how the different settings affect the final image.
Oh well, practice makes perfect! I'll take on board your comments, and try lots of different exposures. If only I could get the subject to stay still while I do it!
