A Duke of Burgundy butterfly enjoying some late afternoon sunshine at the Prestbury Hill Nature Reserve near Cheltenham. This rare butterfly is on the endangered list and is a priority species in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. I'm not sure if this one is a male or female, no doubt one of the buterfly experts on here will be able to confirm.

I thought you had been to THAT wedding Ed,and with your title, was uploading a pic of one of the guests.
Reckon a few guests there are on the endangered list too !!
However,I wish the couple all the best for the future.
But the brides sister stole the show for me !!
Wonder if she would be interested in marrying a Duke of Rust !!
Mick.
I thought Mick was the KING of Rust!
I think the butterfly is a female, Ed. Anyway, it's a nice find and an excellent picture of this endangered species.
Thanks for that Brian, i've looked on there already and am leaning towards female as it is more of an orange colour.

That's an absolute cracker Edmund, I'm not familiar with it, but then I could only name about 3 butterflies,
top shot,
Adrian

Many thanks for all your comments and clicks, they are much appreciated, Ed
Wow, a butterfly of legend, to any of us butterfly-fanatics, Ed. What a super capture of a mega-rare little fritillary. Brilliant. I've never seen one, only the more commom (if any are common) fritillaries. Top shot!
Dave.
