For any who still believes that the West Highland Midge is a myth, I hope this image will disavow him/her of that notion.
I was about Eaten Alive achieving this shot of the silhouetted grasses, lying flat out in long grass by Loch Lomond yesterday.
And, no, it's not a dirty sensorWink.
As the original was virtually colourless, I converted it to B and W and tinkered with it a wee bit in Photoshop.

Glad Kerb Appeal raised a few chuckles........that's what it was all about.

Ronnie.

They do not suck my blood because of the hangover they suffer in the morning !!

Funny thing is Ronnie, last September when we visited Mull and Loch Lomond, we did not encounter any, perhaps late in the year or the hurricane that hit, love the mono conversion.

The forecast was for a Year of the Midgies as our winter didn't kill them off this time, plus all this rain and often muggy weather. I'm being eaten alive whenever I work in the garden here. What an amazing sight in this image! Horrid little blighters!!

We took a campervan I had at the time on a trip in 2002 up to the West Highlands. One day we arrived at a camp site and all I had to do was connect the 240v cable to the post, something that couldn't have taken more than 60 seconds. Rather stupidly I jumped out the van in just a T shirt, the wife counted 57 bites in total! I'll never forget that.......Vicious little b*******! Sad

Oh Ronnie my skin is crawling now, Thanks for that, I've encountered these wee beasties with the sharp fangs too many times. Lying down in the grass in summer is a sure way to loft squadrons of these expert bitters into the sky around your head.

I find my little battery driven fan is great for chasing them off, sadly it's usually in the car and I'm down by a loch side.

Sorry to be so late commenting, I'm catching up slowly though.
