Composition is spot on,thirds all the way, power station just off center.
Exposure--depends what your after. This works fine and its a good "as is" shot. A longer exposure would give you more light ppossibly bringing out the yellows in the field. This would also "stretch the clouds" which a lot of people like.
To keep the clouds as is a NG filter might be used to bring down the light from the sky allowing to balance the flowers--or my prefered methord, take your meter reading from the sky, then from the field then meet half way .
Focus about a 1/3 into image and set to area focus.(always use manual focus on camera and lens)
My way isn`t neccesarilly correct, just the way i do it,works for meSmile

Kim

Thanks Andy , looking at your PF your an expert with these sunset shots , I am just trying to understand how to catch them , I bought the book understanding exposure then decided to set the camera to completely raw capture , I thought for this shot it may have been better to use my zoom lens EF 70-300 and bought the power station more into the shot and has said would have been better to have more light on the field in the foreground , do you think.
Also I am still trying to get my head around PS for editing but would rather get it has right has I can in camera although I am aware that editing has to be done.

But anyway your comment is encouraging , thanks again.

Its a good shot overall, with a nice mix of rural and industrial elements.

The horizon is too central for me, and not on a third, so in the mod Ive added some more sky and cropped space from one side.

The exposure looks good, - the bright sky is exposed well, and if you wanted to lift the foreground, which is lovely, you would need a second exposure to expose that properly, then combine the 2 shots, or use an graduated filter to darken the sky to the same level as the foreground. Theres also the possibility of doing some post processing to lift the foreground shadow, as in the mod.

Ive used the shadow tool in CS4 to do this; sharpened; increased saturation and added a warming filter. flipped horizontally, and added a frame for presentation.

ope this is helpful,

Regards

Willie

Cheers Willie the mod does look good , I wish my PS skills were better , I did use a grad when I captured this and with a polorizer on too , the next time I try a sunset I will try bracketing three shots and see how that does , whilst editing I did add a touch of the warm up filter too , but not much , thanks for the advise , I will take a look in PS and see if I can fathom out how you did this .

Well, looks good to me, Jean. I do like the letterbox format - if anything, I think I might have cropped a little of the bottom to lower the horizon. Also, I'd reduce the bright area of sky to the right and boost the saturation a little. Still a very pleasing image, well done!

Cheers Trev ...you don't fancy bobbing around here to give me some PS lessons do you ??? I know you are good with it. Also I have wrote a blog on here explaining why I am not around much and clicking and running , a lot going on here.

Thanks for the comment .

Everyone to there own. For me, leave it alone - a very nicely handled image, and compositional rules are made to break - you have and it works.

Not on the 1/3rd sorry i should of said its not 50/50,rules are rough
guidelines Wink
Mods O.K but not a photo.
IMHO a photographer should concentrate more on getting it right in camera so the shot requires next to no P.S work
Going now before i start a war!
nice 2nd Mod.Well edited.

A nice composition and contrast between the rural beauty and the necessity of industrial sites. I wouldn't advise you at all, there are many others much more qualified that me to do that! But the mods are good and there is lots of advice for you (and me)to soak up. I do think you are right though to concentrate on your photography skills before PS - after all without the capture being decent in the beginning there isn't much point is there - as I have discovered many times to my utter disappointment when I take a look at my captures - lol) I hope your dog is doing well.

I think the exposure is perfect with nice detail in the sky retained. I think the tones and light are superb. The pano format worked well for the scene. Beautiful image.

Nice piece of work this! Rule of thirds really doesn't make a jot of difference in this case as the composition sits well enough as is.

Have posted a mod!
