I normally steer clear of photos of kids, especially my grand-daughter, as I don't want clicks for cuteness. However I'm breaking my own rule here because I think this particular shot has some merit despite the burned out collar on the left.

Taken at Chester Zoo on Saturday, just after she had her face painted and the paint still felt strange.

I didn't have time to underexpose to prevent the highlights blowing (she is 3 after all). I tried burning them back in but it looked horrible so decided to let it stand.

All comments and critique welcome as ever. No because she is cute clicks please.

Oh and by the way, wish her a happy birthday for today. :0)

Didn't think of that Bri thanks. Mind you she moves so fast the flash would still have been charging.

Thanks Chris, your lack of constructive comment is appreciated. :0)

Yes it works fine - especially as you've got the heavy back/side light

Never knew you were that old Ian, lol.

As Bri says, a little fill flash would have beennice, but it wont have changed the cute factor.

Locely crisp, sharp clear image, perhaps a wee smile would have helped too. Over all a very pleaseing image Ian.

See you tomorrow, will call you shortly.

To get the face exposed properly you sometimes have to burn out a bit, simply because of the angle of the light - but it isn't that bad (honestly!). The expression was definetly worth getting though. Very well captured all in all, I'd say, and timed perfectly.

Thanks Anthony and Mike.

Mark thanks for the mod. Must admit I thought about cloning but couldn't quite work out the best area to use as the source. Never thought of turning down the opacity and flow Doh!
