Just home for a few days before going back to my caravan at Whitby . Here's one from a few days ago . This is the first of many I have to process . Decided to leave the rather blurred seagull in the shot . Probably a mistake which will have to be rectified.. Many thanks for recent clicks and comments .All very much appreciated....Phil

I like the sky but like you say not sure about the seagull. Their is good detail in the boards but I would have got lower to emphasize the boards and walked a little further back to take advantage of the curve in the pier. I took some of the same shot a few months ago in mono. On a finer point you can crouch down to get the top rail level with the horizon so it runs into the top rail which tidies up the horizontal lines.
Hope this is useful

The bird is about freedom, the unexpected, and the mystery of flight. It brings the image to life. For me it's the antithesis of pin-sharp feathers that say nothing more than species ID details.

I personally like that seagull Phil, and feel that it should definitely be left in! A gloriously composed and captured image, well done!

PS: love those rain clouds in the BG to the righthand side!
I particularly like the hint of that curve in the boards - well composed shot Phil ![]()

Rename it after the song Phil (spirit in the sky) like the composition and exposure is spot on.

works for me as well, great sky to
I was undecided at first, but having something in the top left helps the balance of the image, and an indistinct bird gives a certain ethereality to the scene. Nicely done, Phil.

Agree with Dave. Wonderful detail and composition Phil

I take it that they've finished the renovation work that they were doing on the end of the West Pier when I went in June? It was completely blocked off.
A fine capture, Phil, and leaving the seagull in works for me ![]()
