I can't believe it is a year today that I joined EPZ! How time flies. Thanks SO much to all the nice people I have met and who have given me tips and encouragement for taking better pictures. And what a privilege seeing some of the amazing wildlfe pics on this site!
Special thanks to EPZ member Mars for introducing me to this site a year ago via a local newsletter; I've just renewed my e2 subscription as I love all the varieties of pictures here. Folk like Stace with his amazing butterfly pics (!), Jonnycombat with his amazing (wow!) stags, Badgerfred with his badgers, Pluckyfilly with her Great Crested Grebes, and so many many more. Nowhere near enough room to list all that I really admire.
The camera pictured above is one of my old favourites, my Ensign Selfix 820 special; it has a fast lens for its time, a Ross Xpres 105mm f3.5, and an unusual uncoupled rangefinder; even today it has pretty much of a cult following of users, and a gent in Japan has a website of pics taken by one of these.
I hope everyone has another great year on EPZ.
Thanks, guys!
Dave.

You can still get 120 film for them and they take excellent B&W pics, mate. I think I'll leave digital backs to a Leica M8 ![]()
Dave.
Like the details and lighting in this - good work.
Regards Richard.

congrats on yr 1 - I have till Oct as a member but joined in July as a free user so about the same time as you, What a learning curve, great help and support, like nothing else I have ever found. I love your old camera I have a passion for the old ones, and recently re furbished a Perifex mark III which was fun and has the full original document with it and belongs to Cliff's dad. I got it cleaned up and ran a colour film through it and got some good results, not the easy camera to use but another learning curve.

Hi Linda, I am more than impressed you refurbished a Periflex 111! Sounds like we are on similar lines. I've had a black Periflex 1 (wonderful 'periscope' viewfinder, and double wind-on, like your 111), and also a Corfield 66, which was too much of a beast to carry around, but took some great pics. Breech-mounting lens supposedly to also take Rollei lenses. My favourite which I still have is a Yashica YF with Yashinon RF Leica screw 1.8 lens. It is a really well-made piece of kit, and one of the few Leica copies based on the M3, so easier to load film. Yep, plenty of learning curves I agree, but worth every steep angle
All the best with your Periflex 111.
Dave
What a beauty. I have the same camera but it's a bit more beat up. Do you run film through it?
Also I must say that the phrase "english build quality" doesn't come up that often these days--but oh my the thing is built very well. The speeds are a little off on mine but it still takes great shots.
Cheers,
DJ
Hello DJ, yes don't they take sharp pictures. The Ross lens was/is a gem, possibly only second to the Super Ikonta 80mm f2.8 of that period.
Ensign made some really good cameras - all the ones with the Ross Xpres lenses are gems. Good luck with yours.
Dave.
